New Zealand Association for Environmental Education 2006

Introduction

NZAEE Conference

Auckland, New Zealand

Sunday 22 January – Wednesday 25 January 2006

We would like to invite you to the 2006 biennial conference of the NZ Association of Environmental Education.

The conference theme Turning Point - ‘Taka huri haere mai te wa’

embodies the Maori worldview of the evolution of time where Maori move into the future, look back and be guided by the wairua.  As environmental educators we need to share the experience of the past in order to create a new era of sustainability.

At the conference we will explore environmental education experiences that create real change for individuals, organisations, communities and society. There will be a strong focus on cultural diversity.  We will also explore the turning points for the future of education for sustainability.

The conference will combine speakers and workshops under the themes

  • Where are we now?
  • Where do we want to be?
  • How are we going to get there?

The conference is aimed at staff from local and central government, teachers, youth, NGOs and the voluntary sector and businesses.

We are excited with the scope of this conference and hope that it will too become a turning point for both attendee’s and for the Association.
