Centre for Continuing Education
Going Green 2008
'Going Green' was a free-to-public one day event that attracted 400 attendees with an objective of helping attendees make more informed choices by offering "Green 'How To's' for everyday living".
The idea behind the conference came from the understanding that society is becoming increasingly environmentally conscious and aware of its demands on the planet’s resources. However, even with the availability of greener alternatives and literature, many people still feel insufficiently informed about what their eco-friendly options are.
During the event local experts discussed a wealth of topics ranging from how to grow, eat, buy and dispose green; how to invest, build, travel and market green; even how to have a green funeral. Furthermore, ten New Zealand companies showcased a range of green products and services.
Following 2007's Community of Practice Award for Workforce and Economic Development, the Centre for Continuing Education's 'Going green' event held in November has been recognised as the most exemplary programme of the 2008-2009 year by the Conferences and Professional Programs (CAPP) Awards Committee based in Boston, Massachusetts.
