Director and Professor of Lifelong Learning
I have had the pleasure of being Director of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) since 2003. Prior to taking up this post I was Professor of Organisational Studies, Director of the Centre for Learning and Innovation in Organisations and Director of the Centre for Learning Research at universities in the United Kingdom. The Centre for Continuing Education is one of the leading centres of its kind and my role is to oversee its smooth running, a task made simple by the talented and committed staff, and to provide leadership and strategic direction. In my capacity as Professor of Lifelong Learning, I lead major learning design and delivery contracts and research in the areas of adult learning and organisational learning. I am available to assist in the pedagogical design and evaluation of conferences, events, courses and programmes for organisational change.

Deputy Director
I have been working in adult education since 1994, when I began at CCE in a part-time role in Educational Travel. I became programme manager for International Short Courses, then moved to manage the Lifelong Learning programme. When I was appointed Deputy Director in 2004, I was delighted to take on a more strategic role in planning and innovation. I now line-manage our thriving Professional Development, Lifelong Learning and International Short Courses programmes. I am a member of the CCE Quality Committee, the Faculty of Arts International Committee, the General Staff Managers’ Forum and Senior Women’s Forum, and mentor for the University Women in Leadership programme.

Programme Manager – Lifelong Learning
I joined the Centre for Continuing Education at the end of 1999 as a member of the Lifelong Learning team. Prior to this I worked in the adult education sector as a tutor and as a secondary school teacher. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the variety it offers - from liaising with our wonderful tutors and academics to develop and design courses and seminars, to managing the programme’s budget.

My primary responsibilities are managing medical and health, languages and the writing programmes. I also enjoy setting up topical issue seminars utilising my strong relationships with many organisations and academic staff. I am part of the Campus Sustainability Group and I am actively involved in a centre-wide initiative to “green” CCE.

Programme Manager – Professional Development
Lifelong learning has always been my passion and I have been involved in continuing education for most of my adult life. I enjoy having the enormous range of resources available within the University to help us find the right solution for both individuals and organisations.

I have successfully managed large national contracts for several government departments. Programme Manager – New Start
I joined New Start in 1999 as a programme manager. Prior to this I spent my time raising a young family and working part-time in banking and telecommunications sector. A family member encouraged me to enrol in New Start. At the end of the programme I went on to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Anthropology.
When I joined the New Start team I learnt more about course design and delivery, coordinating and administrating university programmes, tutoring, assessments, communication and academic support. My job and students inspired me to later complete a Master of Arts degree in Education.
My primary areas of responsibilities are strategy and planning, support and monitor over 40 academics and 400 students each year, monitor and review programme quality, manage the budget, networking, recruitment and marketing.
The most rewarding aspect of my job is providing support to students during and after New Start all the way to graduation.

Conference Coordinator
Being a part of the conference team for the Centre for Continuing Education has added another ‘string’ to my events ‘bow’, which has previously been made up of corporate, community, sporting and live music events. I am passionate about the events world and the wealth of new experiences enjoyed every day. This includes working with scientists, engineers, primary health workers, environmentalists and educators all of whom are passionate about their fields. I have learnt more about soil-structure interaction and the analysis of a metabolome than I ever expected! I also have more than six years of business administration experience backing my determination to provide the highest quality organisational service possible to every conference I have the privilege to be a part of.

Finance Operational Manager
I have been with CCE for over 20 years and have enjoyed many different roles during that time. Although I am now based in the finance area of the centre’s administration, these former positions have given me an overall knowledge and appreciation of what is involved in each of the programme areas. I have worked with several of The University of Auckland’s financial systems over the last two decades and find each new initiative in this field both challenging and rewarding. My responsibilities now include the management of CCE financial processes and applications in accordance with University policies, as well as submission of forecasting and budgetary control within the centre as a whole. I work with centre staff and find the role stimulating and always busy.
