Centre for Continuing Education
Resolving problems
Guidance for students on procedures for resolving problems.
You are encouraged to raise issues of concern with the tutor of your course first. If you feel unable to approach the tutor directly, please discuss the matter with the Centre for Continuing Education Deputy Director (l.lander@auckland.ac.nz).
The University is committed to providing an environment within the University and all its facilities, which is free from harassment and discrimination. Harassment may be offensive behaviour or unwanted attention. It may involve an abuse of power to disadvantage, dominate, discriminate or insult. Whatever kind of harassment - sexual, racial, academic, religious, and on other discriminatory grounds - it is totally unacceptable.
Procedures:
- Step 1: In the first instance, the student(s) should raise, discuss and seek to resolve the matter with the course facilitator or instructor.
- Step 2: If the student(s) are of the opinion that the matter is not satisfactorily resolved as a result of Step 1, or that there is good reason for not raising the matter directly with the course facilitator/instructor, then the student may request a meeting with the next level of manager or other resource person(s). These include the Programme Manager or the CCE Deputy Director. A University human resource manager/advisor may also be requested to attend, and you may bring a support person to the meeting.
You may also contact the University Mediator: +64 9 373 7599 ext 87478, mediation@auckland.ac.nz
- Step 3: If the matter remains unresolved after Steps 1 and/or 2, then the student may refer it to the CCE Director, (s.geertshuis@auckland.ac.nz) as appropriate.
